Here are a few patients explaining the problems they had before they recieved care at Heartland Clinic of Chiropractic and the results they experienced with our care!
When I just came to Dr. Kiefat in October, I could barely put one foot in front of the other, I had to use a walker. I had over taxed myself moving. The pain was so severe I was taking 3 ibuprofens and 1 extra strength Tylenol every 4 hours.
I went to my medical doctor and he referred me to P.T. for ultrasound, after 2 treatments I was referred to Dr. Kiefat. Dr. Kiefat x-rayed me and scanned to be sure what was wrong, before he started my treatment. After the second treatment, there was much improvement.
I had severe numbness in my left arm, that I attributed to a mastectomy I had 8 years ago and just accepted that. But, after my third visit, I woke up in the morning and my arm felt itchy, I scratched and could feel it. What an amazing feeling, after so long! I was called in to my Pulmonologist for a regular check up, which I had done for the last two years to test lung function. I was on oxygen at night for one year, used two inhalers, and also a C.pap machine for nights. He tested my lungs again with a peak volume test and I was so much improved. I am now on one inhaler and able to use the cross trainer 30 min. a day without any discomfort. Dr. Kiefat said the pinched nerve in my spine was causing arm numbness and shortness of breath. After 90 days of treatment, I have no pain, breathing is great, and I can’t thank Dr. Kiefat and his staff enough for the Great care! I intend to follow up with treatment as long as it is needed.

It’s exhausting to wake up every morning with a headache. Sometimes I’d have a dull ache, sometimes a moderate throbbing and sometimes a severe stabbing pain shooting up from my shoulders to my head and behind my eyes causing white stars, or on a very bad day blindness. A headache of this caliber required a trip to the doctors office for a shot of Imitrex. At least this helped me to sleep. I worked closely with several Doctors, monitoring my diet, taking allergy shots, and taking lots and lots of pain killers. I needed so much ibuprofen, Tylenol, and sinus medication that I had to limit myself to using it only when the pain became unbearable. I don’t remember when or how the headaches started. My only memory of waking up without a headache was in November of 1989. It was amazing. I had never had the experience of being pain free. My headache returned that afternoon riding the highest lows, never to be eliminated again- until last month. My daughter convinced me to see Dr. Kiefat after she successfully abolished her headaches. It was no small feat on her part to get me to make an appointment considering the trauma I experienced in a chiropractor’s office in the past. In In spite of my reservations-or even fear- I followed through with my treatments. To my delight my treatments have not only eliminated my headaches, accompanied by fatigue and a poor disposition but I felt as if I’m standing a whole lot straighter and taller- minus the swayed back and potbelly. I feel alive! Life is beautiful! Thank you Dr. Kiefat for enriching the quality of life for me!

For a number of years I had been suffering from lower back pain that was extending down into my buttocks. This pain was affecting my job, recreational time, and my overall morale. I was walking hunched over and with a slight limp at times and there were even days that it pained me to tie my shoes or step into the shower. Various doctors suggested everything from sleeping with a pillow between my knees to pain killers all the way to surgery. My current doctor told me that I might want to try a chiropractor before going the surgery route and around the same time, my friend Larry suggested Dr. Kiefat at Heartland Clinic. I took advantage of one of the clinics specials and within a matter of days I not only had x-rays showing my condition, I had real answers to my questions. With these answers, there were real solutions. Through treatment and home rehabilitation I was soon walking straight (my wife said I looked taller) and feeling better. I could get a good nights rest and thus my overall morale was greatly improved.
Recently, I told Dr. Kiefat how I had been visiting various doctors regarding a recurring chest pain I had been having. Every doctor I visited said they could find no problem with my heart. I would have these unpleasant pains if I sat in a car too long or in one of the hard seats at the hockey game for a period of time. These pains brought on bad thoughts because of their origin location. I was growing frustrated with the lack of answers. Dr. Kiefat began treating my neck and I am happy to say that in the last month I cannot remember one time that my chest hurt.
I cannot put into words how happy I have been with the professional and kind treatment that Heartland Clinic has shown me. I fully endorse this clinic and urge anyone experiencing problems to at least make an initial visit and find out if that strange pain you might be having can be treated

I had a persistent problem with my left arm, shoulder, and numbness into my left hand since 2002. This was correctly diagnosed by a previous chiropractor as a problem with a vertebrae in my neck (C7/T1) rotating over and putting pressure on the nerve. I saw a medical doctor and a neurologist who ordered an MRI be done. Their suggestion was for me to do shoulder exercises, which did not cure my problem. The result was persistent pain in my shoulder (sometimes debilitating), and numbness and pain in my arm down to my fingers. The pain and numbness also caused me to drop things. When I first approached Dr. Kiefat about treating me after relocating to Grand Forks, I asked him to do what my other doctor had done, which was re-align that vertebrae. He refused to do it that first day, insisting that scans and x - rays were needed to fully diagnose and prescribe a treatment. He showed me the results and explained that while I was correct in identifying that region, the solution would involve more than that as a result of other issues and his desire to treat for long-term success. Since my prior treatments had only provided short-term relief, I was anxious to solve this permanently and began treatment.
Kiefat had found that one of my legs was 7mm shorter than the other which was a reason my previous treatments never took. After 4 weeks of 12 treatments, I noticed about 75% improvement. Three weeks after that he asked how my hand had been, and I was shocked to realize I had had no pain or numbness for weeks. I am pain free for the first time in years, and am confident that with exercise and periodic care, this will be permanent.
I cannot believe how much better I feel; I can move my head in complete freedom, having regained range and flexibility I did not know I had lost. My arms and back are similarly improved (in the beginning , I could not remove my shirt by lifting both arms over my head). Thanks for improving my present and future health Dr. Kiefat!

Where do I begin, since retirement July 2008, I have had more aches and pains that wouldn’t go away but actually kept getting worse. After almost 30 years as a cosmetologist, it takes a toll on the body.I worked with the Physical Therapists at the Rehab, had an MRI on my knee and cortizone shots in my knee and shoulder. I also had worked out on the machines to strengthen my body - especially, my left leg which I had pulled the ham string really bad in February 2007, ( I had slipped in my kitchen). While I was working out on the machines, my sciatic nerve went out on me and I could barely walk, I had to use a walker. I made an appointment with my massage therapist/friend, JoAnn Cory. She did her best to help me but referred me to Dr. Kiefat whom she thought could help.
I called the Heartland Clinic as soon as I got home and I got in almost immediately. As I had said, I was using a walker when I went to Dr. Kiefat and had to for awhile. Gradually, he got my sciatic working right, my back straightened out, my left knee is pain free, and he is working on my right shoulder. This is all since the end of March 2009.
I realize now that I had worked when I was in lots of pain and did not listen to my body. I highly recommend Dr. Kiefat. He has helped me so much and has prevented me from having surgery. I am forever grateful.

On September 27th, 2003 was the start of many problems. I would get terrible spasms in the back of my neck and head motion sickness and an earache that felt like and infection. My family doctor told me I would have to quit my job (which at the time I was driving potato truck) and to make an appointment with an ear, nose and throat specialist and also to get my eyes checked. So I did, to his knowledge he could find nothing and told me to watch my caffeine, chocolate and sugars. Also sent me to another specialist that specialized in TMJ. He too said this has nothing to do with any of my symptoms, but did advise me to chew softer foods and to do some exercises for the jaw. In the meantime, I went to 3 chiropractors and again could not find what was causing this. There were many days and nights of sorrow, pain, frustration and hopelessness.
After giving up all hope, I read the Grand Forks Herald and read the article about Dr. Kiefat. I thought what do I have to lose if I go for an exam and x-ray for $20! I called right away, since this special was only running for a while. Alisha was so helpful in getting me an appointment as soon as possible and explained to me all the other details. So I went through the procedures and Dr. Kiefat told me it was my 1st and 2nd vertebras that were causing most of my symptoms. After a few adjustments my motion calmed down, my ear quit hurting and I started to feel myself again. Alisha and Dr. Kiefat were so helpful and encouraging. I was so excited to go to Heartland Clinic because I knew now that there was hope and I was going to get better. I can now do all the things that I enjoy doing again, including a full time job.
Thank you Dr. Kiefat for all your patience, knowledge, faith and for making me a miracle believer. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for you.

I am very happy to tell everyone how much Dr. Kiefat and Heartland Clinic has helped me.
I was experiencing low back pain with pain radiating down both legs. I had a back surgery in 1997, but the pain returned in 2003. I was going to pain management and having injections into my back every 6 months. The injections were not relieving my pain any longer and by 2007, I was experiencing tailbone pain with pain going into both legs, worse in the left leg. The pain was progressively getting worse until it was very severe. It affected my sitting and sleep a lot.
I was referred Dr. Kiefat by a friend who knew how much back pain I was in. Dr. Kiefat examined me and then told me straight out that he could not guarantee if he could help me or not, but that he would give it 100% effort.
I am very happy and pleased to tell everyone that after three months of treatment I am almost pain free. When I first started here I was taking pain medication around the clock with only minimum relief, but now I only take Tylenol daily.
Dr. Kiefat and his staff are very caring and were very helpful in my treatment process.

After a fall 10 years ago I was experiencing severe pain graded 10/10 and numbness in my low back, and shooting pain and cramps into both legs. The pain was so horrible I could not sleep at night. I went through a M.R.I. and 3 different back surgeries in hope of relieving the pain, but I experienced no relief. Not even the pain pills all the doctors gave me could take away my pain.
Following care by Dr. Kiefat I no longer have the shooting pain into my legs! The numbness in my low back is gone, and I now have only one spot in my low back with pain, and I grade that at only a 2-3 out of 10. I appreciate this very much. The following information will describe the very positive experience I had with Dr. Daniel Kiefat at the Heartland Clinic of Chiropractic in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
I am a retired teacher and retired farmer. I have had some back trouble over the years, but nothing really serious. However, in late Sept. 2007, I was visiting my mother and simply sat down on her soft couch. I felt an electrical type sensation in my lower back and it also felt like a couple of marbles rolling in that area of my spine. Within a couple of days, not only was my lower back giving me serious pain, but I felt pain down my left leg all the way to my foot. I suspected that I had a pinched sciatic nerve. The pain got so severe that whenever I would get out of bed, I absolutely could not begin immediately to walk. I had to wait for a minute or so…only then could I move, and when I did so the pain in my leg and back was excruciating.
I knew that I had to get help somewhere, so I called Dr. Kiefat’s office and I was fortunate to get an appointment the very next day. Dr. Kiefat took x-rays of my back and neck and thoroughly explained to me what he would do. After my very first treatment/adjustment, my pain diminished. I continued having treatments, did the recommended exercises at home, and got totally to the point where there was no pain at all. Before ever starting my treatments with Dr. Kiefat and his staff, I thought surgery would be the only way for me to receive help.
I want to express my appreciation and sincere thanks to Dr. Kiefat and his entire staff for the kind and professional treatment I received with each appointment I had. I would enthusiastically recommend Dr. Kiefat and Heartland Clinic to anyone with a need for chiropractic services.

Breaker, Breaker, 1 9, 10-4 Good Buddy this is the Wolf Man speaking at you on this channel. The Doc says I should say a few words to you. Well, I guess from that intro you know that I drive a truck for a living.
For most of my life, I didn’t even know that I had a back much less that it could hurt. But, the past few years I had an occasional adjustment. The past December the adjustment I had from another chiropractor caused me a lot of sciatic pain and neck pain. The following adjustment only added to the pain I was already experiencing.
I was referred to Dr. Kiefat by a massage therapist and mutual friend and started on the road to recovery in March 2009. I had never had a scan of my back nor an x-ray, which revealed several problems. A few weeks into therapy I fell at work which was a set back. On May 4, 2009 my father died in an accident, so I didn’t have any therapy that week, another little set back in my recovery.
Three weeks ago the Doc asked me to write this account of my journey but, I hesitated due to the fact that I still had pain in my neck and nerve pain in my shoulder. Since then, with a few more adjustments and some exercise I’ve come to a place of being pain free. I’ve been driving that truck some 70 plus hours a week for the past 5 weeks. For me to be pain free at the end of that ordeal is unbelievable.
Dr. Kiefat and the staff are very caring and loving people and I praise the Lord for his leading me and my wife to a road of recovery at Heartland Clinic of Chiropractic.

In November of 2001 I fell off of a chair hanging a picture. At that time I had a dislocated shoulder. I went to the out patient clinic, had x-rays, and it showed that the shoulder bone was dislocated. I then had that put back in place and I was in pain. After is was put in place, I had it in a sling for 2 weeks, still in a lot of pain. So the early part of December I went to the Doctor again. She ordered an M.R.I. At that time the x-ray showed a complete tear in the rotator cuff. I than had physical therapy 3 times a week until march 27, 2002. Then two more surgeries to fix the shoulder. I still had a lot of pain but kept on with therapy for 3 years.
Than in April of this year, the teacher I worked with (Mrs. Debbie Hammond) said that she was going to this new Doctor at Heartland Clinic of Chiropractic. She was getting so much good from him. She asked me if I would like to go and see if he could relieve some of my pain. I said yes.
So in April of this year, I went to Dr Daniel Kiefat. I had my first treatment on April 23rd of this year. After the treatment the first one I had no pain. I have been pain free since my first treatment. I do my exercises and I am feeling fine. I would recommend anyone with a lot of pain to see chiropractic and see what he could do for them. I am so very pleased and thankful for all that Dr. Kiefat has done for me.
